The video is a record of an exhibition in the Dartington Bookbindery 2023. It covers many aspects of the book from the dominant western codex structures to traditional bindings from other cultures. The destruction of books by human activities or natural pests. It also includes examples of artist books, one written by a US military veteran to explain post dramatic stress to children, a study of seaweeds, geological time explained with patterned papers. A history of the department from 1935 is recorded in the book ‘Inky Rags’ written by Mary Bartlett. Weekly classes in a well-equipped space continue where members can work on projects of their choice from book restoration to book arts. Unicorns are also explained. The connection between the White Hart, at Dartington and unicorns can be found in the book The Book of the Lambspring where both dwell in the forest and harmony needs both. Articles, videos and films are accessible on the Dartington Hall Trust web site. The exhibition will be available during the weekend of the Craft Fair in December 2023. Credit for filming Selby Thomas. Organised exhibition by Mary Bartlett.
