About this course

On this course, we will explore how ecological understanding can transform how gardeners interact with plants and the land.

We will be focused on practical and creative ecological gardening. Taking inspiration from rewilding, ecological horticulture and permaculture to tend gardens over time, while working towards our goals. How can the gardener be an ecosystem engineer and create ecological diversity, beauty and produce food?

The day will begin by exploring Sid’s work and approach in designing, creating and managing ecological gardens. He will discuss his research and projects with edible forest gardens and edible meadows, their ethnobotanical history and applied ecological principles. We will walk the gardens at Schumacher College, discussing how to practically implement these ideas, providing take home ideas to thoughtfully tend the land.
