What was Open House?

Open House (8-10 March 2018), was a free event to share the latest plans for Dartington inspired by the thoughts of people like you. We staged an exhibition alongside a series of talks, workshops, art events and more.

A huge thanks to the hundreds of you who joined the discussion about the future of this magical place. We’ll be staging further events later in 2018 to continue sharing our plans and keeping you part of the discussion. Join celebrated garden designer Dan Pearson and our head gardener Ian Gilbert for a tour of our much loved gardens to discover how Dan's exciting ideas are to shape their future.
Dan Pearson Presents the Gardens Master Plan1830 - 2030The Great HallTwo years on from our community-led Open Space events, Dartington's CEO Rhodri Samuel invites you to see how plans are taking shape and introduces award winning designer Dan Pearson to speak about his vision for the future of Dartington's gardens. If you're fired up, angry, or excited by the current state of education, then join us for this interactive panel discussion. It's the first in a series that looks at 'the future of education and learning' and Dartington's role in shaping it.

Dance the Estate!1400-1700
The Great Hall - and estateWe're shooting the final scene for our new film about the remaking of Dartington. You're part of the story and we'd love you to get involved! In a partnership with estate based Dance in Devon, local choreographer (and Green Table barista) Minou Polleros will lead you in an extraordinary global choreography of Pina Bausch’s Nelkin Line through our gardens to Aller Park Field. Bring your umbrella and let yourself go! Pina Bausch was taught by Green Table choreographer Kurt Jooss, at Dartington from 1934-40.
Craft: You Could Make This Up1500-1700
High Cross HousePaying tribute to Dartington’s vibrant craft history, exploring the way in which we surprise ourselves by learning, and celebrating the colourful, confident and often nonconformists makers living out Dartington’s legacy. Join Lou Rainbow, Craft Learning Manager and local makers to make something of yourself. Radical printing, talking and twining, clay and carving.
The Future of Enterprise at Dartington1600 - 1730
The Green TableDartington Collaborative Network (DCN) connects the web of businesses and enterprises that thrive on the Dartington estate. Join tenants from across Dartington for an informal networking event and hear from Annette Dhami, General Manager of Impact Hub Brixton and Impact Hub Islington, who will lead a discussion about what the future of progressive enterprise could hold for Dartington.
No Them, Only Us - The Future of Social Justice at Dartington1800 - 1930
The Green TableWith rising inequality one of the defining challenges of our time, Dartington has renewed our commitment to tackling injustice and to working towards a more just and equal future. In this workshop our Social Justice Director Ceri Goddard will present our vision for a new phase of social justice innovation - and invite views, ideas and debate on we can best connect to and support the wider southwest equality and social justice movements.
